PDRC Northern Drag Racing Championships

Norther Drag Racing Championships - Sportsman ET

Dave Rushforth has written an account of round 1 of the PDRC Northern Drag Racing Championships that took place last weekend.

Dave Rushforth in his Mustang

"We had a good 1st round with 9 cars entered in Sportsman ET. With Charlie Stirling taking No1 spot and earning himself a Bye run in the 1st round.

Next pair up was Trevor Cadman in his Big Block Camaro against Steve Chapman Who was caught napping on the line handing the win to Trevor with a 13.47 on his 13.46 dial in.

Next pair up were Dale Ackworth in his SD1 Rover and Des Taylor in a borrowed VW special, Des advancing onto the next round.

Lee Chiles, current champion, was up agaist Sam Carter with Lee Taking the win.

Lee Chiles, current PDRC Champion takes the round win!

I was up next and unfortunatly my opponent Graeme Sanne failed to show giving me a bye into the next round.

Round 2 saw Trevor Cadman beat Charlie Stirlings big Block Ford powered Consul Capri.

Des Taylor had a Bye into Round 3 (which was lucky as he broke a driveshaft on the line!)

Next up was me and Lee Chiles, and it was a very close thing at the stripe with Lee taking it with a 14.98 on a 14.9 dial in to my 15.1 on my 14.95 dial in! With rt's of .552 to .568 you can see it was close!

Next round put Trevor up against Des Taylor AND Lee on a bye to the Final

The win going to Des with a better R/T

On to the Final and Lee 'Cookie' Chiles cut an unreal RT of .503! only for Des to break another driveshaft on the line handing the win to Lee!

So Lee starts the season where he left off last year in No.1 position and with the next round coming up at the end of this month, we will all be chasing hard to topple him!"

Many thanks Dave for providing us an insight to the first round of the  PDRC Drag Racing Championships.

Many thanks also to Richard Smith for providing the photos.

Mustang V Camaro

In this years championships it seems that the Ford Mustang is becoming a weapon of choice, as pointed out by Mustang owner and racer John Parker.

So what is the preference? Vote on what you would use to race the quarter mile.
